There were lots of people out with dogs on the cross country skiing trails. On each course, there are also dog friendly trails! Pretty cool. Yet, we still saw few people on the trails, as there are so many to choose from.Ĭross Country Skiing Trail Map Mount Washington Download The parking lot was full and cars were parked down the road. I was expecting it to not be busy, because who comes to a ski hill to cross country ski or snowshoe? Boy, was I wrong. Families and dogs were everywhere, highlighted by smiling faces that were less bundled. The Nordic Village on the other hand has a bustling yet calm, somewhat serene and wholesome feel to it. The main ski village at Mount Washington is similar to other ski villages– it has a little high-energy centre with people clumping around in heavy boots and snow goggles, near a pub and lodge, with the purr of chair lifts and the scratch of fast-speeding people on skis or boards stopping quickly in a spray of snow. Along the 55 km of trails you are presented with spectacular views, sometimes with mountains and ocean in the distance. Mount Washington is located along Vancouver Island’s Strathcona Provincial Park. Who knew? But upon being there, I can tell you it is for good reason. Washington, Secret Spot, Mount Washington The next day, on the advice of a friend who was in-the-know, we went snowshoeing at a “secret” unmarked trail outside of the Mount Washington resort for free.
We spent our first day snowshoeing at the Mount Washington Nordic Centre. As well, there are dog-friendly trails, which is great for all those dog-loving lesbians (us included).
And then last weekend, we decided to go snow snowshoeing, and encountered a miraculous snow discovery! There is an entire other part of Mount Washington - the Nordic village, where you can go cross country skiing or snowshoeing on Mount Washington… or even rent fat bikes for trail riding in the snow. But each and every time before I had gone to down hill ski or snowboard at Mount Washington. I have been to Mount Washington hundreds of times over the 13 years I have lived on Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia.
